About Katie:

Katie is Alopecia UK’s Volunteer Manager and joined the charity in March 2024. She lives in Central Scotland with her husband and two boys. She enjoys dancing, reading and family days out.

Katie’s background:

Before working for Alopecia UK, Katie has worked in the charity sector for over a decade as both a volunteer and staff member. She has worked as a Volunteer Coordinator for a charity providing emotional support to terminally ill patients and their loved ones, as well as an Operations Manager for a charity providing emotional support to individuals with long Covid and/or bereaved due to Covid-19. She has also been a volunteer for various charities for the past 15 years, most recently as a trustee for a local youth group.

Why Alopecia UK:

“During my introduction to Alopecia UK, it’s become clear to me just how much of a welcoming and inclusive community the charity has developed.  I experienced postpartum hair loss after the birth of my first child and dealing with health issues, and at the time I had no idea of the kind of support out there. Seeing the immense support and understanding the Alopecia UK community gives to individuals affected by hair loss, makes me feel privileged to be a part of the charity.

I have been involved in volunteering from a young age and am a big advocate for volunteers and the extremely important role they play in a small charity such as Alopecia UK. My hope is that my experience as both a volunteer and a Volunteer Manager will help Alopecia UK to continue to provide a positive volunteering experience that is both supportive and rewarding for our volunteers.”

Katie's favourite inspirational quote:

The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention (Oscar Wilde)
