Amy's background: Before working for Alopecia UK, for over a decade Amy worked in financial services. She worked in pensions administration before progressing to management at a firm of independent trustees, during which time she gained strong administration, communication and management skills. Amy at Alopecia UK: Amy is responsible for Alopecia UK's website and social media, which help to support and inform the alopecia community, as well as educate the wider public. As a staff member working in Alopecia UK's small West Yorkshire office, Amy also helps to ensure the smooth day to day running of the charity. Amy also represents Alopecia UK at conferences to raise awareness of the psychological impact of alopecia to medical professionals. She links in with the British Association of Dermatologists and the Dermatology Council of England. Amy has been involved in many different projects in her time at Alopecia UK but counts the creation of our children's story booklets, the publication of Alopecia UK's report into wig provision in England and the development of the alopecia e-learning module for GPs as the key achievements from her time at the charity. Why Alopecia UK? "Being in touch with others with alopecia and gaining that valuable peer support made living with alopecia much easier for me. It was through Alopecia UK that I first met others with alopecia and this changed everything for me. I went from feeling isolated, insecure and angry, to feeling happy and confident again. In 2012, when I found out how small a charity Alopecia UK was, and that it was entirely volunteer-led, I was keen to give back to the charity that had helped me so much. I felt strongly then, as I do now, that people with alopecia deserve to have their condition understood by medical professionals and their needs met. I am proud to be a part of Alopecia UK and its work to improve the lives of those with alopecia". Amy's favourite inspirational quote: You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.
