Our research aims and strategy focus on understanding the causes of different types of alopecias, how to manage the associated psychological distress, finding effective treatments, and ultimately cures. Researchers interested in applying for funding are encouraged to involve patients throughout the research process, including during research design stages. Alopecia UK PhD Bursary In 2022, we announced our first PhD bursary application round. This resulted in an award made to Dr Harries' team at the University of Manchester and the Salford Care Organisation. The project, starting in October 2023, will investigate if early access to treatment can improve outcomes in patients with recent-onset alopecia areata.
