We caught up with one of our latest fundraisers, Becky, who recently completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, with her husband Rob, to raise funds for Alopecia UK!

Why did you decide to support Alopecia UK?

We decided to support Alopecia UK as I suffer from alopecia myself. It started just over 6 years ago, and eventually I lost almost all my hair from everywhere, one of the hardest things I have ever had to go through. To start with, I almost tried to hide it. The longer I had alopecia, the more comfortable I became. I experimented with different styles and colours of wigs – I now have a slight addiction and have a huge wig collection!

Thankfully I have an amazing network of family and friends who supported me from the start, but I know not everyone has this and Alopecia UK can help them, so I wanted to do something to help. I want to raise awareness of the condition, which I know is one of Alopecia UK's aims.

Tell us about your fundraising challenge

A friend suggested we do a challenge for our "big birthdays" (40!!), and we decided that yes, we wanted to do it. With hindsight, we didn't really do enough training - ha! We did a number of training walks, including 1 of the peaks (Pen-Y-Ghent) and then 2 another time (Whernside and Ingleborough) but three together is something else! Rob and I completed the challenge with a group of close friends and we got each other through it! We just wish the weather had been kinder to us!

You and Rob have raised £700 with your Three Peaks Challenge, how does it feel to have raised such an amazing amount for Alopecia UK?

We are absolutely thrilled that we managed to raise over our target amount and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that sponsored us, it really means a lot to us that they did. And it was the sponsors that got us through to the end – the last peak was a killer but knowing that people had sponsored us to do it pushed us through to the end.

A huge thank you to Becky and Rob for raising funds for Alopecia UK. Our work around our aims of Support, Awareness and Research can only continue thanks to the generous support of fundraisers like Becky and Rob.
