Strength in Numbers - September 2025 September is Alopecia Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the impact alopecia has on the lives of those affected. Each September, we rally our community to get involved in raising awareness, whilst raising funds for Alopecia UK too. Our theme for September 2025 is ‘Strength in Numbers’. Why? Because we know that alopecia can be challenging to face, but it feels even more difficult and overwhelming if you feel like you are facing it alone. Alopecia UK’s recently published 3-year strategy is all about putting support at the core of what we do. One of the key pillars of our strategy is ‘Community Building’. September provides a brilliant opportunity for those affected by alopecia to come together and feel the power, and warmth, of strength in numbers. Tell me more about ‘Strength in Numbers’ Well, firstly, let’s talk about the vast numbers of people in the UK affected by alopecia. If we include all types of hair loss, this figure runs to millions! If looking just at alopecia areata, we estimate around 100,000 people are living with alopecia in the UK. These are BIG numbers but let’s talk about some smaller ones too… This September Alopecia UK will be: Aiming to recruit 100 people to sign up as Charity Champions to raise awareness and funds to support our mission to provide support, community and education to improve the lives of those affected by alopecia. Continuing to share our 20 Stories for 20 Years – a collection of stories from our community reflecting on experiences with alopecia and interactions with Alopecia UK over our 20-year history. Providing 26 individual information and education posts on our social media channels as we share our first ‘Alopecia A-Z’. These posts can be shared onto your own socials. Bringing together more than 200 people at our Big Weekend event at the end of September in Birmingham. Hoping to have 200 candles placed on our virtual Alopecia UK birthday cake. Our official birthday is 14th September, but our cake will be open for candles from now until the end of October. Donations are optional (and hugely appreciated). This is a lovely opportunity for our community to share with us the positive impact that AUK has made, whilst popping a candle on our cake (you can even share a photo with us too!) We would LOVE to hear from you! We really hope you will get involved in some way this September. Together we are stronger. Manage Cookie Preferences
