What fundraising events do you have that I can get involved in?

Being the small charity we are, we do not have our own fundraising events for you to join. We rely on inspiring individuals to do their own thing to raise funds and awareness for Alopecia UK. If you are looking for inspiration, check out our Fundraising Ideas - A-Z. Or have a browse on our website to see what others have done to raise funds for Alopecia UK.

We do not have the capacity to purchase large numbers of places in externally organised challenge events. Again, we rely on individuals securing their own places and using those to raise funds for Alopecia UK. There are lots of different events from a variety of event organisers across the UK.

How do I set up a fundraising page for Alopecia UK?

It is simple to set up a fundraising page on our website. Just follow the instructions provided and we will approve your page as soon as we can. Create your fundraising page here. If you set up your page on a weekend, you will need to wait until the next working day for your page to be approved.

Alternatively, if you prefer the Justgiving platform you can set up a fundraising page with them here. We encourage fundraisers to set up pages on our website because the fees are lower than Justgiving. We are happy to welcome pages on either platform. #

If you wish to fundraise for Alopecia UK and another charity, we recommend using a platform called Give As You Live. This allows a fundraiser to create a single fundraising page which splits donations equally across multiple charities. This is better than creating separate fundraising pages and asking donors to choose, as what tends to happen is one charity will receive more donations than another and this can be disappointing for the person wishing to support more than one cause close to their heart.

Can I get an Alopecia UK t-shirt?

We will send an email to the contact details associated with each new fundraising page that is set up, offering an Alopecia UK t-shirt. Please ensure you enter your email address carefully when setting up your account on our website. Please check your spam/junk folder in case our email reaches that.

If you are fundraising via an activity that does not involve setting up a fundraising page, email [email protected] to request a t-shirt and one of the team will try to help.

We are pleased to offer one free t-shirt per fundraising activity. If more t-shirts are required, we may need to ask for a payment to help cover our costs. Please contact us to discuss if you need additional shirts.

Can I use your logo?

If you’d like to use our logo as part of your fundraising for publicity or in any other way, please contact us ([email protected]) and we will consider your request.

Does Alopecia UK have any London Marathon places?

Alopecia UK does not have guaranteed places in the London Marathon. We may have a place depending on whether we have been successful in the charity ballot. If we have been successful in a charity ballot, we cannot apply in the following year's ballot and must wait until the year after. We recognise that London Marathon is an very popular event and we wish were were able to get a place each year. We have been fortunate in previous years when runners have used individual ballot places to raise funds for Alopecia UK.

Can Alopecia UK provide me a place in another organised challenge event?

Typically the answer to this question will be no. Alopecia UK is a small charity without a dedicated fundraising team. As such, we do not purchase charity places in events. We do not have the staff capacity to then try to fill the places. Plus, charity places typically cost more than individual ones.

Instead, we rely on kind individuals purchasing their own individual places/entries in events and using them to raise funds for Alopecia UK.

An exception is if we are ever offered a charity place in the London Marathon, we will purchase it. We often purchase a handful of places in the Great North Run as we do not tend to struggle to fill these places. We have tried other events in the past and have not managed to fill the places.
