Thank you for considering becoming an Alopecia UK volunteer. Please ensure you have read in full the Role Description before applying. Please note this role requires an enhanced DBS check and a character reference check. This form is comprised of four sections to be completed and should take approximately 15 minutes 1) Basic Details 2) Volunteer Role 3) Information needed for the event 4) Character reference & DBS (for new volunteers) and volunteer agreement APPLICATIONS CLOSE: Friday 14th June 2024 at 4pm
The Equality Act 2010 defines a disabled person as someone who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities
The volunteer role will involve: welcoming people upon arrival and helping to put them at ease, facilitating groups to go round the activities throughout the weekend, good role modelling, just general all round facilitation of fun! Being willing to put your own wants/needs regarding activities to one side. Essential skills: strong people skills, friendly, welcoming, supportive, good at facilitating conversations and introducing people to each other, an understanding of alopecia and what Alopecia UK does. Essential trait: To have alopecia and be prepared to have it on show. We need the majority of our volunteers to be people with alopecia. A big part of the volunteer role is role modelling. An important part of the weekend for younger or less confident attendees is meeting and spending time with those who are comfortable and confident with their alopecia. Please bear in mind that the majority of the volunteer role will be to facilitate which may mean that you do not get to take part in all the activities you want. While we obviously want all the volunteers to have a great day (and they generally do!) we do want to emphasise that the role of the volunteer is to ensure that the attendees all have a great time, putting their needs before your own.
We need to know a little bit about the extent that you have hair loss (if any), how comfortable you are with that being on show, how you think you might feel on the day being part of the event etc. This is so that we can place volunteers with groups accordingly. This is only for Alopecia UK and will not be shared publicly.
We ask that volunteers wear Alopecia UK t-shirts all weekend to help both identify them as volunteers (you will also be given a badge or armband with this on) and help with awareness. As such we are happy to provide up to three free t-shirts (one for each day). We are also selling discounted hoodies should any wish to purchase one. Please complete the details below.
Please provide us with the details of a referee who can provide a character reference for you. Ideally, this should be someone who isn’t a family member/partner. We will inform you of when we will approach your referee.
