We know that connecting with other parents of children with alopecia can play a vital role in a family's alopecia journey. Speaking with others who understand the challenges and emotions involved can provide valuable peer support, practical advice, reassurance, and a sense of community. It can also help parents feel less alone, better understand their child's experiences, and build confidence in supporting them.

Alongside our face-to-face groups, events, Facebook groups, and phone and email support services, these online meetings help us provide even stronger support opportunities for parents and families affected by alopecia.

Meetings take place online via Zoom, offering a welcoming and confidential space for parents and carers to connect, share experiences, ask questions, and discuss ways to support their child with alopecia. We welcome parents and carers of children and young people with all types of hair loss.

Please note: This group is for parents, grandparents and carers/guardians only. We ask that children and young people do not attend these online meetings, allowing parents and carers the opportunity to connect with others who understand, share experiences openly, and access support in a welcoming, safe, and confidential environment.

Who is this meeting suitable for?

Online peer support group meetings for parents and carers of children with alopecia, providing a safe space to connect, share experiences, and support one another. The group is open to parents, grandparents and carers/guardians regardless of their child's age, including those whose children are now adults.

This meeting is only open to those in the UK.

What can you expect of this meeting?

At the beginning of each meeting, you will be introduced to the Alopecia UK hosts. Our volunteer hosts are all parents of a child with alopecia, bringing their own lived experience, understanding, and empathy to the group. They will make you feel welcome and run through some basic housekeeping.

Each meeting will be capped at 20 attendees. Any meeting with more than 10 attendees may be split into two smaller groups to allow everyone the opportunity to take part in the discussion. Please arrive promptly, as once we break into smaller groups you may be unable to join the session.

From there, parents and carers will have the opportunity to chat with and listen to others who are supporting a child or young person with alopecia. You can ask questions, share experiences, exchange advice, and connect with others who understand the unique challenges and emotions that can come with supporting a child with hair loss. We hope you will leave the meeting feeling supported, reassured, and more confident in navigating your family's alopecia journey.

All of this takes place from the comfort of your own home - perhaps with a cuppa and biscuit close by!

Who will host the meeting?

The meeting will be hosted by two of our volunteers, Cathy and Simon.
