A lot has happened since my last blog post, if you haven’t read it please find the link here.

I always wanted to spread awareness of Alopecia and I had to do this in my own way, this is why I wrote BARE: With Me. The show looks into the effects of hair loss, especially for women and how societal norms have conditioned us to believe that women must have long hair. As I said in my previous post we were performing BARE: With Me at Roehampton University on the 5th and 6th December 2018. The show was an AMAZING success, we had great feedback from audiences and we loved performing! From our ticket and bake sales at the show we raised £300 for Alopecia UK which we were so proud of. But, the exciting news does not end there!

We are now taking our show further and performing at the Barnes Fringe Festival! This will be on the 13th July at 3pm at the OSO arts centre. Tickets are FREE and donations are being accepted. We are so happy that our show has been recognised to perform again and we cannot wait for further audiences to see it!

Whilst developing our show further I also wrote my dissertation on hair which was titled:

Bad Hair Days:

An exploration of the performativity of hair in relation to gender and cultural identity in a contemporary, post-feminist context.

I really enjoyed further researching the history of hair in relation to gender performativity, the connotations of hair and cultural identity. This research has helped the development of BARE: With Me to make it as authentic as possible.

We would love our show to sell out so if you are free on the 13th July at 3pm for an hour and would like to support us PLEASE get your free ticket and come along to the OSO Arts Centre: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/barnes/oso-arts-centre/barnes-free-fringe-bare-with-me/2019-07-13/15:00/t-mavydg
