A team of volunteers spent August bank holiday taking part in the MADhurst carnival parade, in Midhurst, West Sussex with the aim of raising awareness and public understanding of alopecia.

This was the fourth year that Alopecia UK's blue t shirts were in the parade, supported by a team of classic cars supplied by the Chichester MG Owners' Club, festooned with AUK balloons and AUK branded livery.

It couldn't have been a better day for it, with clear blue skies and scorching sunshine. Amongst a sea of dancers, performers, marching bands, various floats, and people in some very silly costumes, the Alopecia UK team was in the midst of the action handing out balloons to children, and receiving terrific affirmation from the cheers and applause of the estimated 3,000 spectators on the streets.
Being so visible in such a public setting prompted many great conversations with members of the public, many of whom were curious and open to understanding more, and some of whom had friends/family with the condition but were unaware of the charity and therefore keen to learn about it.
Among the Alopecia UK team was singer songwriter and AUK ambassador Joelle, who took to the stage and wowed the showground audience with a fabulous performance of her favourite songs from her popular Facebook live shows.
As ever, participation in MADhurst was a positive and rewarding experience for all volunteers, and above all a great fun way to spend time with our community.
