Monday 16th March 2020

In light of recent news events regarding Covid-19 (Coronavirus), we have made some difficult decisions regarding upcoming Alopecia UK events and support groups. The safety of our community is paramount to us and we need to take appropriate and responsible action.

Alton Towers Event - Cancelled

Sadly we have decided to cancel our planned trip to Alton Towers which was scheduled to take place on Saturday 18th April 2020. We appreciate that many of you will be very disappointed by our decision but there is too much uncertainty for us to continue to commit to the event. By taking this decision now, we are able to reduce any financial loss to the charity before we purchase our tickets from Alton Towers.

We have a responsibility to our event attendees, volunteers and staff, as well as the wider public, and we feel we need to put our own feelings of disappointment aside and do our bit to reduce the risk of the spread of Covid-19.

We will be issuing full refunds to all who have ordered tickets and merchandise for the 2020 event and full details, including why we have chosen to cancel and not postpone the event, can be found here.

London Regional Roadshow – Cancelled

Our London Regional Roadshow will no longer take place on Saturday 13th June 2020. At this point it is unclear whether we will be cancelling or postponing this event. We are exploring all options with the venue. Further details will follow as soon as decisions have been made. Tickets were only recently put on sale but if you are one of the few attendees who had already purchased your ticket, a full refund will be provided.

Alopecia UK Support Group Meetings – Cancelled until the end of October 2020

All AUK support group meetings are cancelled until the end of October. We will continue to monitor the latest news events regarding Covid-19 and will re-assess next month whether the cancellation period is extended into November or beyond. We hope support group meetings will be able to resume safely as soon as possible but the safety of our volunteer support group leaders and group attendees is of utmost importance to us during this uncertain time.

In the meantime, support can be accessed online via our private Facebook groups. Our main Facebook group is a great source of peer support. Our Products & Services Chat group is brilliant for finding tips and advice about practical options relating to alopecia, such as wigs, headwear and permanent make up. Our Parents’ Chat group is a dedicated space for parents of children with alopecia to support each other and our Mens Chat group provides a safe space for men to share their experiences with each other.

In addition, if you are struggling with your alopecia and need to speak to someone, you can contact the AUK office between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

We want to take this opportunity to send our love and best wishes to everyone within our community. Show kindness and compassion at this difficult time and hopefully things will get back to normal soon.
