After three and a half years on the Alopecia UK Trustee Board, Harry Brunt has decided it is time to step down. We asked Harry to reflect upon his time as a Trustee..

"A little over 5 years ago I was approached by Alopecia UK about becoming a Trustee after I’d done a bit of fundraising and shown some interest in medical research.  Quite where the time has gone since then I am not sure!  With a growing business and a baby on the way, plus a new band of energetic and talented trustees recently recruited, now feels like the right time for me to step down.

The charity has matured since I first started volunteering, and I’m particularly thrilled to see how the research arm has grown. Alopecia UK is now investing more and more into early-stage research so that one day, we hope, we’ll help find an effective treatment or cure for all forms of alopecia.

We now have such a fantastic research manager taking forward our Research aims and have a brilliant group of dedicated scientists on our Research Committee. I feel confident that I’m leaving this side of the charity in very safe hands for the future.

In both the staff and fellow trustee board I know I have made friends for life, and I will continue to follow the charity closely and help out when possible so that we can keep providing the much needed support for so many who are currently struggling with their hair loss."

A HUGE thank you to Harry for all the time and energy he has given to Alopecia UK. We wish Harry all the best for the future!

Our two Trustee departures in 2021, Harry now, and Karen Green in June this year, have provided openings on our Research Committee for Trustee members. Ruth McPherson and Lynn Wilks will be joining Alopecia UK's Research Committee to represent the views of the charity and the people we serve.

Ruth McPherson said:

"I am delighted to join Alopecia UK's Research Committee and look forward to supporting their vital work to further research into hair loss. As a fundraiser for the UK's first alopecia biobank and a Trustee of Autoimmune Alopecia Research UK (AAR-UK) before its merger with Alopecia UK, I am passionate about finding answers and solutions for people with alopecia."

Lynn Wilks said:

"I am excited to be joining Alopecia UK's Research Committee to help drive forward the charity's research aims with the great team of clinical researchers who work with us. I hope that my background, from early days as a biomedical scientist to later working for pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, will prove helpful as we seek to understand more about the causes, mechanisms and treatments for alopecia".

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our Trustee Board for everything they do and all the time they give to support Alopecia UK.
