We know that meeting others with alopecia can play a huge part in a child's alopecia journey. Not only can it provide a wealth of peer support and advice, help children feel less alone and understand their feelings are perfectly normal, it also helps reduce anxiety and build confidence.

In order to support children with their alopecia journey, we facilitate online meetings via Zoom that provides a unique opportunity for children to meet others with alopecia in a safe, supportive and fun online space.

Who is this meeting suitable for?

This meeting is most suitable for children with alopecia aged 7 -12. If your child is under 7 and you wish to attend please consider whether the meeting seems suitable for them. We recommend children under 7 be supported at the meeting by a parent/carer in order to enjoy it to its full capacity. If you have any questions regarding this please contact our team.

This meeting is only open to those in the UK.

What can you expect of this meeting?

This online meeting will include:

  • Icebreakers
  • Some fun, silly games to get to know each other
  • An opportunity to take part in an organised activity - this session the focus is all about Alopecia Awareness Month!
There will be a chance to share personal alopecia experiences and hear about some of the ways we can raise alopecia awareness in the places important to us.

Who will host the meeting?

The meeting will be facilitated by Alopecia UK staff member Naomi (seen in the picture to the right), along with 1-2 other volunteers!

Naomi first experienced alopecia areata when she was 22 in 2014, it quickly progressed to alopecia universalis. She joined the AUK team in early 2018 and saw the huge benefits of peer support, especially with children and families. Naomi has a background in childcare and was previously a drama teacher for the theatre company Stagecoach. She enjoys working with children to help them build their self-esteem and confidence. Over the years Naomi has experienced varying degrees of regrowth, experimented with wigs & headwear and currently is back to having alopecia areata.
