Alopecia Awareness Fund

Apply for our Alopecia Awareness Fund: Now welcoming applications

What is the Alopecia Awareness Fund?

The primary aim of the Alopecia Awareness Fund is to actively support new, innovative projects, events and initiatives that raise awareness of alopecia within our local communities across the UK.

A key objective of the Alopecia Awareness Fund is to be ‘on the ground’ developing new ways to support different groups of people affected by hair loss. From this funding, we would like to showcase these new initiatives across our different communications channels.

As a small staff team within the charity, the Alopecia Awareness Fund allows Alopecia UK to support local projects and ideas that we would otherwise be unable to reach or engage with.

The maximum funding available per quarter is £500.00.

Who can apply?

  1. This funding scheme is open to anybody within the alopecia community wishing to carry out alopecia awareness across the UK.
  2. Only one project can be submitted per person/group per funding year.

What we will fund

For the pilot year (2022), the Alopecia Awareness Fund will:

  • Give a preference to alopecia awareness projects/events/initiatives which address the needs of individuals from ethnic minority communities
  • Give a preference to projects which provide a tangible product or resource for the benefit of AUK and those who use its services. This could include, videos, imagery, information resources, as an example.
  • Give a preference to projects which can clearly demonstrate a lasting impact for the people receiving support from the project.

Example Project - for informative purposes only
A long-term supporter of AUK has felt that there isn't enough information on alopecia specifically aimed at the British Asian community. This person would like to make a high-quality digital resource sharing the experiences of young people with alopecia - primarily talking with local individuals with alopecia who identify as coming from a British Asian background. However, this person needs a bit of funding to help pay for a videographer. The Alopecia Awareness Fund can help cover this cost. This video resource can then be used by Alopecia UK to improve representation within the charity and increase support for people with alopecia.

How to apply for the Alopecia Awareness Fund

You will need to complete and submit the appropriate application form, sending that to: [email protected]. For more information, please see our Eligibility Criteria and Terms and Conditions.

What we ask for (in a nutshell)

  • A completed application form, with a fully costed project and timeline
  • Successful applicants will be required to submit an end-of-project report at the end of their 12-month project timeline. This report will include a request for receipts so we can see how funding was used.
  • The AUK logo is included in any materials (a graphic will be sent to successful applicants for them to use) acknowledging the support of the charity through the Alopecia Awareness Fund. We’d also like to see any resources which mention AUK prior to them being released publicly.

Timeline

Applications for awards will be considered at four points throughout the year, depending on when the forms are submitted. The closing dates for 2022 are given below.

  • Wednesday 26th January 2022 at 5pm - Our winner for January 2022 is Shaday, read more about her project here.
  • Wednesday 27th April 2022 at 5pm
  • Wednesday 27th July 2022 at 5pm
  • Wednesday 26th October 2022 at 5pm
