News & Events News School Pack Funding Success for Alopecia UK February 2020 Here at Alopecia UK, we are all too aware of the challenges faced by many young people with alopecia in schools. Some children with alopecia face daily struggles and, sadly, some young people who are not attending school at all due to the challenges they face. We believe that this means some young people are perhaps not achieving to their full potential as a result of having alopecia. We are keen to tackle this and address some of the challenges faced by young people in schools in order to try and help make their everyday school life a bit easier! In 2019 we submitted a funding bid application to the British Association of Dermatologists Patient Support Group Fund to request funds to pay for the creation of resources for schools. We are delighted to tell you that this application was a success and as such, over the next 12 months, we will be developing materials suitable to be used in schools across the UK, for pupils aged between 4 and 16 years of age. The resources will be designed to be used with three age groups, age 4-7, age 7-11 and age 11-16. The resources aim to increase awareness and understanding of alopecia as well as how to support any child or young person with alopecia in school. Throughout this process we will be consulting with children, teenagers, parents and teachers. If you are a parent or young person and interested in being kept in the loop about this, along with other children and young person- specific projects please register your interest here and we will be in touch! A big thank you to the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) for their support with this project. This follows previous funding from BAD to support the printing costs of our children's story booklets. We are delighted they have continued their financial support of resources for children.
