Alopecia UK is always pleased to hear about young people taking the initiative with fundraising. 13 year old Millie's proud mum, Caroline, got in touch to tell us about her daughter's fundraising plans.....
"Millie decided to shave her head for two reasons. She wants to donate her gorgeous hair to the Little Princess Trust (a charity that provides wigs for children with medical hair loss) and to raise money and awareness for Alopecia UK.
Millie's elder brother, who is now 18, lost his hair to alopecia 4 years ago. She has been very inspired by how he has dealt with this and how he continues to deal with it now. Millie says she will be like him for a while until her hair grows! She wanted to raise money for Alopecia UK to help the charity support other people who live with alopecia.
We are all super proud of Millie. She has decided to do this completely off her own back. She phoned me a few weeks ago and said 'Mum., i'm going to shave my hair to raise money for Alopecia UK'. The next thing I know, she's agreed a date and set up a Justgiving site with her elder sister (Millie is the youngest of three). The whole family is immensely proud of her determination.
Millie is excited and nervous about the upcoming head shave and is also looking forward to being treated to lunch afterwards!"

Good luck Millie! We love hearing about why our fundraisers get involved in the charity! Whilst Millie has been inspired by her brother, we hope others will be inspired by Millie.
