At the end of February, you might have seen that Alopecia UK announced the development of its first Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy. As a small charity team, dedicated to building a fairer, more inclusive environment for our alopecia community, we are excited about this important step.

But this is only one step in the right direction. Now comes the part where we need to action the key areas identified in the strategy. One of the major goals and milestones is to establish a new 'Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Advisory Group'.

What is an EDI Advisory Group?
An EDI Advisory Group is a group of people who come together from a range of diverse backgrounds to share their experiences and ideas, specifically on the topic of EDI and alopecia. Group members come together and dedicate their time to seeing positive change within our alopecia communities.

The Advisory Group is not a decision-making committee or group, but a collaborative body whose members share a passion for creating a fairer, more inclusive society for everyone affected by alopecia.

Why are we setting up an EDI Advisory Group?
Our Advisory Group is being created with the purpose of providing a space in which group members can discuss topics specifically related to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). We want to recruit people with a range of backgrounds and experiences, who have a strong interest in EDI to help the charity ‘sense-check’ our approach so that we continue to improve how we support our communities.

Advisory Group members will be at the heart of the charity, gaining an insight into our growing organisation and be in a key position to champion our EDI work on the ground. You will be invited to contribute your perspective to a range of charity initiatives moving forward.

We are looking for individuals who have a genuine interest and commitment to making a difference to EDI within Alopecia UK. We are particularly keen to hear from people with different types of alopecia, senior citizens, those who identify as disabled, those who come from a minoritised ethnic community, and those from the LGBTQ+ community.

Could you help us by joining the Advisory Group?
