At Alopecia UK our mission is to improve the lives of those affected by alopecia. One of the ways we do this is by working to raising awareness of alopecia and the psychological impact it can have.  We aim to do this amongst the general public but also with professionals who those with alopecia come into contact with. We do this to help ensure that the person with alopecia has a good experience when seeing that professional.

We are delighted to have contributed to a new EduQual accredited Level 4 Certificate in Hair and Scalp Science. The online course, which is aimed at anyone with an interest in hair (e.g.  hairdressers, scalp micropigmentation practitioners, trichologists, and doctors), provides a comprehensive programme allowing learners to discover more about the anatomy and physiology of hair and the practice of Trichology. The course has been developed by the College of Trichological Science and Practice (CTSP) whose mission is to raise the profile and professional standing of the practice of Trichology through an accredited education and training pathway. The CTSP also plans to launch a Level 5 and Level 6 diploma over 2021-2022.

Recognising the importance of the psychological impact of hair loss, the CTSP wanted to ensure that their course covered relevant issues to those with hair loss. Kerry Montgomery, Psychological Wellbeing Lead for Alopecia UK said:

“We are really pleased to have worked with the CTSP and contributed to their new course. We want to ensure as many people as possible recognise the impact of hair loss. Helping professionals understand how they can support people with alopecia leads to the best outcomes. We believe that all professionals in contact with those experiencing alopecia should have an understanding of the psychological impact of hair loss. We hope to continue working with the CTSP and other professionals to help improve this area of education.”
