Do you fancy raising some awareness on August bank holiday Monday (27th August)?

Each year on August bank holiday Monday, a group of AUK volunteers take part in the MADhurst carnival parade.

Our AUK entry in the parade, led by an MG decked in AUK signwriting, towing a huge bunch of helium balloons, and followed by our team of AUK volunteers, all in their blue t-shirts, will be seen among all the floats and colourful characters as the parade winds its way through the village of Midhurst, West Sussex.

The response to our team from the spectators lining the parade route is always fantastic. We always get applause and cheers every year !

...and it's FREE fun!

The parade terminates on a showground where an afternoon of FREE music and entertainment awaits us.

We always try to make ourselves visible on the showground by handing out AUK balloons for free to all the children. By the end of the afternoon every child on that showground will be sporting an AUK balloon !

We then set up our chairs in front of the stage to relax and socialise for the afternoon, and answer any questions members of the public may have for us.

It's a terrific day of raising awareness of alopecia, and of gaining acceptance and understanding from the general public. It's also lots of fun and a great day out !

The entertainment goes on long into the night, but you can stay for as little or as much of it as you please.

Sounds great! How do I take part ?

Email [email protected] to confirm you'd like to take part in the MADhurst Carnival Parade.  We will pass your details onto volunteer Mandy Vallender. Mandy will then be in touch with further details.

On Monday 27th August 2018 come to the assembly point at the Grange Centre in Midhurst (GU29 9HD) for 09:30 and join our team.

Please remember to wear your blue AUK t-shirt or hoodie. This is VERY important.

Do I have to show my alopecia ?

No. While no one is under any obligation to show their alopecia if they don't want to, obviously the more bare heads in our group the more powerful the message to the spectators.

Finally, don't forget your sunscreen!

If you need to stay overnight in the area, accommodation in Midhurst can be expensive, so we recommend Travelodges about 30 mins away at Fontwell and Fontwell Park, or for those who prefer to camp there is a CCC site nearby at Graffham.
