Saturday 22nd September 2018

Our volunteer, Tayside support group leader Lorna, is kindly organising this event in Dundee to take place in September (Alopecia Awareness Month).

Please Note: Ticket Sales will close one week prior to the event.

The event will comprise of two parts:

Support Event:  10:30am - 2:30pm

The aim of this event is to allow people living in or around the Dundee area (and beyond!) with or affected by alopecia to have access to an exhibition hall of suppliers such as wigs, scarves and permanent make up (TBC).  This event is being organised by Tayside Group Lead, Lorna, and she hopes to have a mixture of stalls, talks and demonstrations in order to share information about some of the options we have for managing our alopecia.  There will also be a social area for people to relax and get to know each other.  There is an optional extra of a buffet lunch, to be served between 12pm and 1pm.

Awareness Event: 2:30pm - 4pm (approx)

The aim of this event is to raise some awareness of alopecia and have a bit of fun!  Following on from the support section of the event, there will be the chance to take part in an 'Awareness walk' around Dundee. The walk will visit various locations including the newly opened V&A museum and the McManus (McMenas) Gallery, to see the 80th Birthday of the Beano exhibition.

Why is the Tayside Support Group hosting this event?

Understanding what products are available for people with alopecia can be incredibly useful for members and so the idea of a Road Show with exhibitors was born!  This is the second Alopecia UK Roadshow event (the first being held in London). This event is being hosted and organised by the Tayside Support Group Lead Lorna who is a volunteer.  As it’s Alopecia Awareness Month Lorna also thought she would add on an awareness event taking in some of Dundee’s landmark locations.

How have the suppliers been selected?

Lorna has marketed the event with known Scottish suppliers based on personal experience, group member suggestions and well-known suppliers. However, it is important to note that there is limited space and so unfortunately not all suppliers will be able to have representation at this event. In addition, the suppliers who do attend the event are not endorsed by Alopecia UK - this event is being set up for information sharing and support purposes only.

Who can attend?

Anyone affected by any type of alopecia.  Children under 17 must be accompanied by someone over 18.

Can I bring family members/friends with me?

Yes of course! However, as we would like this event to be enjoyed by as many people with alopecia as possible, please limit this to one or two (if adults) or two or three (if children).  You will need a ticket for each person regardless of whether they have alopecia or not.

Is this event suitable for children with alopecia?

The Awareness Event will certainly be suitable for children and teens with alopecia.  The Roadshow part of the event may not be suitable due to suppliers perhaps not having products for them, however they are certainly welcome and may benefit from the event just by meeting and seeing lots of others with alopecia.

Is C-Gate fully accessible?

Yes.  For a virtual tour of the venue please see the C-Gate website.

What is included in the Ticket Price?

Roadshow Event: Access for one (10:30am - 2:30pm) - This allows access to the event and any exhibitors.

Social Buffet Lunch -  You will be able to access the buffet lunch on the day.

Do you do refunds?

Refunds are available until Friday 7th September 2018.  After this date no refunds will be given.

What are my transport/parking options?

C Gate is a City Centre location directly opposite the main Dundee Bus Station making bus travel the best option by far!  Tickets from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen are currently only £10-12 with the journey being just over an hour from each place.  We recommend using megabus to get your tickets.

C Gate is only a 10 minute walk from the Train Station.  We have heard talk of there being some line closures due to engineering work however you can check if this affects you on the ScotRail website where you can also purchase tickets.

There is no parking at C Gate however there are many car parks close by.  Queen Street is the closest one, just a 2-minute walk away, and looks to be approximately £9.60 for 6-10 hours of parking.  This is just a small car park however and an alternative, much bigger option, is Olympia Parking which is just a 4-minute walk away and looks to be approximately £8.70 for 10 hours of parking.

Please see the C-Gate website for further details.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Please feel free to contact Lorna Weir on [email protected] with any questions or queries about this event.
