Alopecia UK has won a £1,000 Movement for Good award from Ecclesiastical Insurance Group thanks to nominations from our supporters.

Alopecia UK is one of 500 winners in specialist insurer Ecclesiastical's Movement for Good awards, which is giving £1million to charities this summer.

This Movement for Good award will help fund the ongoing year round facilitation of our four online peer support groups, one of the many ways that we provide support at Alopecia UK.  In our online groups, those affected by alopecia can connect in a safe space in order to speak to others who ‘just get it’.  Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, our online groups allow our 10,000 plus group members to connect with some form of peer support whenever they need to.

Members of the public were invited to nominate causes close to their hearts, with 500 gifts of £1,000 available for donation. Over 13,000 charities were nominated by more than 210,000 members of the public.

Alopecia UK Operations Manager, Amy Johnson, says: "We would like to thank Ecclesiastical Insurance Group for this Movement for Good award. It continues to be a challenging time for fundraising and so this award provides a very welcome boost to our small charity. With over 8,000 individuals actively engaging with our groups every month there is a lot of work required by our admin team in order for the groups to run as smoothly and as safely as possible.  Described by some as a ‘lifeline’ we know how important these online groups are to people, helping them to get the information, advice, signposting and sharing of experience that they need to help them on their journey with alopecia. We are delighted to receive this funding which will support our work with these valuable support groups".

Mark Hews, Group Chief Executive of Ecclesiastical Insurance Group, says: “We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a good cause as part of our Movement for Good awards. Ecclesiastical, the fourth largest corporate donor in the UK, is a unique financial services group. We are owned by a charity which means all available profits can be given to the good causes that are so important to our customers. As a company whose purpose is to contribute to the greater good of society, charitable giving is at the heart of our business. We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the incredible work that charities do and we’re looking forward to seeing how this financial boost will change lives for the better.”

Another HUGE thank you to everyone who nominated us for this award. We are very grateful to everyone who took the time to nominate Alopecia UK.
