In my case, hair loss was preceded by urticaria and atopic eczema, but none of these could be attributed to any external reason.

In any case, if you have the option to move out, it sounds like a good idea even if it has nothing to do with it. It's very unlikely that your lifestyle brought about your alopecia. I guess a healthy lifestyle can aid in the body "righting" itself from the false signals it is now sending itself - alopecia like you describe is caused by the body's autoimmune function backfiring and attack the hair follicles. Please don't beat yourself up!

Yes I think I'm being a bit impatient, I can't put any other eye makeup on as I only had them done a week ago and they are still healing, unlike eyebrows where you can just leave them to heal. I can't wait to start my other eye-makeup up again and will certainly be using the kohl pencil on the white line even though it comes off I can keep touching it up. Will let you know how they go. Will need touching up again in 3 weeks then hopefully all will be well. ut it was fineI was expecting it to be painful but it was fine and hopefully worth it.Take care.

TCHAP1x

    Author: Jaybird
Subject: New here, looking for help.
Posted: 07/February/2012 at 9:53pm

Thanks for the reply GM1,

Yeah, I'm glad to hear that you managed to see a dermatologist and clarified that it wasn't a fungal infection - even with my limited knowledge from reading about it over the last couple of weeks it's fairly clear that you can't confuse AA with a fungal infection.

Really encouraging to hear that cortisone got rid of that patch too - I'm sure that if it's just small areas she'll be able to deal with them with hair extension and the likes. I know it's not life threatening, but she's a girl who spends a lot of time thinking about her outward appearance and to her it has been a huge psychological blow - plus she works in the public eye, and she doesn't know if she could continue to do that if half her hair dropped out. She's 20, so not a good age for something like that to happen.

As for my mould theory - it's probably just a case of clutching at straws, but it is strange she developed a skin rash after moving into our flat - something is obviously irritating her skin and we don't have a pet or anything like that. I don't think she has a fungal infection, but I'm just curious as to whether it might be possible that the immune response could have been triggered in some way by this bathroom mould getting into her hair follicles.

I'm currently treating the bathroom with all manner of anti-mould products, which I guess I should have done months ago anyway - if by any chance that there's any improvement in her skin rash, then I'd be interested in exploring the possibility of a connection further, if not then at least we don't have ugly mould in our bathroom :S
The only thing I can think of is using a kohl pencil, it is a pain having to do it and it doesn't stay on all day. Before AA I never wore much make up now I spend ages getting it right. A friend who is always beautifully made up and doesn't go anywhere without it said to me the other day when I was complaining "welcome to my world" made me laugh! Take care x

I'm really pleased with the results so far. If anyone is worried about the pain, don't be I fell asleep whilst I was having them done. The cost was £320 which sounds a lot, but a visit to the hairdressers was costing me £70 plus every 6 weeks! Something I no longer have to worry about. The price also include a colour top up in 4 weeks time, I will keep you posted. Take care xx

At the moment I'm wearing a wig outside for work etc, but prefer a hat or nothing when I'm at home. At least we have a choice! Have you had any treatment? I have been reading about what's on offer, but the doctor at the hospital said he didn't want to try anything just yet as there are side effects. I must admit I do feel quite well since it happened. Would be good to hear your thoughts and experience. X
